Tutorial Tuesday

This week I made a ribbon skirt for Sarah!
The last time I went to the local thrift store I picked up this:

It was less than $3! It was labeled a size 6, but ran more like a size 2! So onto the chopping block it went!
First, I cut the top part off right under the zipper.

Next, I cut off the top 6 1/2 inches and took in the sides a couple inches. Then, I serged the top and made a casing:

Originally this skirt had a large slit in the front.
So I cut out the front slit and seam.
Then, I cut the bottom hem off and cut the bottom 13 3/4 inches off. Next, I sewed the front seam closed (serging the edges).
I took the ribbon that I wanted on the bottom and sewed it to the inside of the skirt. Then I turned the ribbon to the right side and sewed it there, enclosing the bottom unfinished edge. Next, I added three more rows of ribbons with 1/4 inch spacing.
Time to attach the top piece to the bottom! I lined up the side seams and made a front pleat and a back pleat with the extra amount of fabric on the bottom piece.
Pressed and topstitched! Finally, I threaded the elastic through the top casing!
Upcycled ribbon skirt finished!

She even braved the rain for a few modeling pics! :)

Perfect for Spring!
