Another Boy Project

I bought the BBB Pants pattern found HERE. It's a pattern designed for cloth diapered babies (of which I have two!). I decided to try the first pair for Josiah, made out of a madras plaid:
Super cute!
I made the 12-18 month size and added a navy edging:
They ended up being a little long! That's ok! He'll grow! :)
The pattern has an extra panel in the back. That's what gives the cloth diapered hiney some room!
Love that Blueberry diaper cover!
To go with his new pants, I made Josiah a raglan shirt, baseball sleeves style. And since I'm a big Yankees fan, (did you know that about me?):
I decided to show some Yankee love! :)
Here he is being ornery, getting into brother's school supplies:
It's a great pattern! I think I will have to make some more! :)

Indecisions

I got a new toy delivered yesterday!
My husband bought it for me, just because. (Thank you, my honey!)
Aren't just because presents the best? :) I was so excited to get this Silhouette SD cutter. They are so cool!

Soooo, what have I done with it so far? Only this:

You see, now that it's here, I can't decide what to make with it! There's too many possibilities!! :) I'm sure I'll figure something out soon though!

Anybody have any ideas?

Tutorial Tuesday

This week I thought I would try my hand at a scalloped skirt for Abby!
I really like how it turned out!

First, I cut a base piece, 41" by 16":

Then I cut the top piece, 41" by 14". I wanted it to be shorter and it wouldn't need a hem!
I also cut the lining for the scallops, 41" by 4 1/2":
I then traced some scallops from my cutting mat:
They were 5" across so I would get 8 of them on the hem of the skirt, leaving 1/2" seam allowance!
I cut out and traced the scallops onto the bottom of the skirt and lining piece:
and cut them out:
Right sides together, time to sew the scallops!
Once they were sewn, I clipped the inner corners and trimmed the extra fabric, turned them right side out and pressed them:
Yay! Scallops!
I turned under the top edge of the lining piece 1/4" and stitched it all the way around:
Next, I sewed up the back seam of the under and outer skirts, finishing the seams:
Then I hemmed the under skirt 3/4":

and topstitched the scallops:

Now it was time to join the under and outer skirts! I pinned them together at the top, right ride of outer skirt against wrong side of under skirt:
After I sewed around the top, I ironed the seam down:
then ironed the layers together. Then I sewed the casing by sewing 3/4" from the top and left an opening in the back by not sewing all the way around:

Next, I threaded the elastic between the under and outer skirts and into the opening:

Then, I sewed my elastic together and closed up the opening in the back! I decided to add a velvet ribbon and bow where the lining seam was for an extra touch!

Scallop skirt finished!

Abby loves it!

Another Molly Monday

Molly's been at it again! Filling our days with thoughts of a four year old redhead!
(Gotta love the red eyelashes!)

Molly- "Mommy, I gave you a PINK kiss!"
Me- "A pink kiss? Why is it a pink kiss?"
Molly-" Because I just put on watermelon lip gloss!"

Molly- "Josh, can you get my jacket down?"
Josh- "Yeah. Which one is yours?"
Molly-" The one that says Gravy Crockett on it!"
Me- "Ummm, that's Old Navy...."
The rest of the kids, singing- "Gravy..., Gravy Crockett...., King of the wild frontier....."

There's never a dull moment in the Mack house! :)

Growing Up

My daughter, Megan, got her driver's permit today!
How does she feel about it?

HA!
She is the third teenage driver in our family. It's really hard having your kids grow up...
You hope that you did a good enough job. That they know enough, that they will be safe, that they will make good decisions.
When it all comes down to it, you know you have to let them go... but you spend a lot of time praying they are safe in His hand! :)

It's Contest Day

Today is contest day over at I Am Momma - Hear Me Roar.  A contest for boy's tops!

I Am Momma Hear Me Roar

So I can finally reveal what I have made!
A monster shirt for Josiah!
I'll be honest, I got stage fright yesterday! I wasn't sure if my shirt would be worthy of hanging with all the entries from so many talented ladies! Then I remembered how much all my sons loved my design. Even my 17 yr old said he would wear one (he's cool like that!), so I had to enter! :)

Here's a close-up of the detail:
Freezer paper stenciled letters and appliqued boy and monster. The shirt is a curved raglan pattern that I drafted.

Here's some fun pictures from the photo shoot:
Hanging with the monsters!

The shirt fits great!

Fits right in!

Escape!

Such a fun contest! :)

Eight Fluffballs

So what's been going on at the Mack house?
Lots of this:
and this:
We had all eight of our chicks hatch! Five buff and 3 black.
That makes for lots of happy kids!
(Please excuse the messy hair and fat lip! It was one of those days!)
It's amazing how they know exactly what to do from the moment they hatch! Tolerating all the snuggles? That they're still learning! :)
